Bendigo was in celebration mode recently, with not one but two major events, and we were there to capture the highlights.
Bendigo was on show with two spectacular celebrations bound by light and art.
Enlighten: A Festival of Projection was an ode to art and local artists. Grown from Creative Victoria's Regional Centre for Culture program, Enlighten featured 19 arts projects across the city.
Starting Wednesday 29 August, across four luminous nights digital canvases were projected onto and in-between Bendigo landmarks. Artworks celebrated the cultural diversity of the region, each holding a local connection to the people of the area.
Although striking as a solo show, Enlighten was a rousing warm-up act for the main event on Saturday 1 September.
From 7.00 pm on that night, the official switch on Bendigo's debut White Night went to 'on' – merging the two events into a city-wide beacon of amazing light shows and performances. Event organisers were delighted with the turnout, with attendance estimated at 60,000 across the night.
The expansion of White Night to Victoria’s regional centres, including Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong, has been supported by the Victorian Government’s Major Events Fund.
