Rupanyup’s big plans to save the small town

Read the video transcript

The people of Rupanyup, a small town in Victoria's Wimmera region, are showing how small communities can think big when planning a brighter economic future.

Local partnerships have raised more than $700,000 to fund a community-led development of a market centre for the township, a key destination on the Silo Art Trail.

Faced with a shrinking population and declining infrastructure the “Enterprise Rupanyup” group raised enough money to purchase the town’s ailing supermarket and develop a retail complex for locals and visitors.

Partnerships between the Bendigo Bank, Yarriambiack Shire, Enterprise Rupanyup and the local community helped raise the funds  to develop the retail hub, while investing in additional services. The Victorian Government contributed $500,000 to the initiative.
