From 1 January 2019 all non-racing greyhounds will be allowed to be muzzle-free in public.

These changes have been welcomed by the greyhound community, who have expressed excitement about these reforms.

Minister for Agriculture met with Greyhound Racing Victoria at their Greyhound Adoption Program Café in West Melbourne to discuss the change earlier this week.

Previously, only greyhounds that had successfully completed an assessment under Greyhound Racing Victoria’s Greyhound Adoption Program were able to go without a muzzle in public.

Greyhounds must still be leashed at all times, including in council off-leash areas.
