Holly Klintworth’s craft distillery on the Mornington Peninsula has plans to expand with thanks to Business Victoria’s Ready for Growth program.

Based in the Mornington Peninsula, Bass and Flinders Distillery has gone from strength to strength since it opened in 2009, most recently with targeted help from Business Victoria’s Ready for Growth program.

The craft distillery was the first of its kind in the winery-rich region – Holly Klintworth’s father Wayne saw an opportunity to do something new and developed a passion for creating artisanal gins, brandies and liquers.

The distillery has grown a lot in a little more than 10 years, offering unique spirits, a cocktail bar, gin masterclasses and a beautiful view.

Now managing director and head distiller, Holly describes how participating in the Ready for Growth program helped her evaluate pricing models and build her financial knowledge and capability.

'The Growth Action Plan for us was about export, around price-changing as well as re-evaluating our current business plan.'

Ready for Growth connects participants with expert advisers through delivery partner BDO Australia, to give tailored advice and support.

'Koraly, my assigned BDO growth facilitator, and I focused together on working through a bit of a break-even point when it comes to pricing – it helped me better understand where the profit generation in the business comes from and certain products where maybe they weren’t making as much profit and what we could do to change those things.' Holly explains.

What might begin as a bright idea and passion for gin can become a booming business ready to export to international markets.

Ready for Growth supports businesses with high-growth potential to access new markets and expand their business. Apply today.
